Short Swim Test:
Small lap around pool (Front Stroke OR Breast Stroke) 2min Tread Water. Followed immediately by: 2min Floating (Dead Man's Float OR Back Float with legs dangling below) Shallow Water Egress Trainer Chair: For the chair portion of the training you will be seat-belted into a floating chair/cage and spun upside down. Your task will simply be to not panic while undoing your seat-belt, pushing open the plastic window covering the exit, and exiting the chair/cage. The Dunker: The main event of H.O.S.T. is the dunker training. Here you will be placed inside of a shell resembling that of a helicopter (approx size of a UH-60) and given the opportunity to train exiting the helicopter in different locations of the shell familiarizing ones-self with different types of doors and exits. To begin, all students/pilots will be seat-belted in a chair inside of the shell. Slowly the shell will lower into the water. As contact with the water is made, the shell will begin to roll to an upside down position all while the shell continues to submerge. The task is simple: don't panic, undue your seat-belt/shoulder harness, open the appropriate door, exit the shell, and swim to the top of the pool. Below are some videos that should give you a better idea of what to expect! Enjoy. |
